The President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaite held a meeting with the Prime Minister of Sweden Fredrik Reinfeldt during which she underlined that Sweden is one of the main economic partners of Lithuania and the second biggest foreign investor in the country.
“Active regional cooperation, good and solid relations with Northern states is one of the key priorities of Lithuanian foreign policy. We have a common interest with Sweden and other states of Northern Europe, which is assurance of successful development of Baltic Sea region”, - said the President Dalia Grybauskaite.
According to the Head of the state, security within the region, steady economic growth is impossible without energy independence of Baltic states. Lithuania values highly the assistance of Sweden within bilateral projects accomplishment – NordBalt electric juncture installation, as well as within solutions of energy security issues at European level.
The President underlined that by solving the issues of the European Union competitive ability they need to discuss it with all 27 member-states, and not only with the Euro-zone states.
The Head of the state expressed gratitude for the Prime Minister of Sweden for the return of the archive of documents belonging to Lithuanian diplomat of interwar period Ignas Šeinius. This archive comprises important documents, covering the activity of foreign Lithuanian organizations on rehabilitation of Lithuanian state in 1918, and on the activity of Lithuanian diplomacy during the periods of independence and occupation.
