
Kazakh Senate Chairman Kairat Mami met with the President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Karl Lamers, the press service of the Senate reported.
Issues of further cooperation between the Kazakh Parliament and the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, strengthening of the security system in Central Asia, the activity of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan were discussed at the meeting.
«Our country attaches great importance to the development of multidimensional and multifaceted cooperation with NATO,» K. Mami said. Besides the Kazakh Senate Chairman noted the success of cooperation in the modernization of the armed forces and military training up to the NATO standards, joint demilitarization projects, capacity-building of civil emergency planning.
The Kazakh parliamentary delegation has the status of an «observer» and routinely participates in the annual sessions of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly and Organization’s activities.
Karl Lamers praised Kazakhstan’s contribution to the international effort to rebuild Afghanistan and noted the role of our country in promoting stability and security in the region.
