Merkel ready to sign Ukraine-EU Association Agreement when prerequisites created

German Chancellor Angela Merkel says that the conditions for signing the Association Agreement between the European Union and Ukraine are currently unavailable.

She stated this at a press conference on the results of the German-Polish intergovernmental consultations in Berlin Wednesday, the UKRINFORM correspondent in Germany reported.

"The prerequisites with which it would be possible to sign the association agreement /with Ukraine - Ed./ are absent now," she said.

At the same time, the Chancellor did not rule out the possibility of signing the agreement in the future. "We are in the process, and, in our view, when the conditions are in place, we will be ready to put our signatures here (under the agreement - Ed.)," she added.

Merkel noted that the EU expects from Kyiv certain steps, but did not specify which ones. "There are a number of challenges, but they can be overcome through dialogue," she said. The German government head believes that the EU, including Berlin, will continue to develop "close contacts" with Ukraine.
