The EC representative Christiane Hohmann states that the “Eastern Partnership” program is performed as planned and won’t be “frozen”.
We remind that each “Eastern Partnership” member-state (Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Azerbaijan and Armenia) can apply its project for financing in a definite sphere and only then European Commission will decide on the country, the sum and the purposes to grant funds on.
Christiane Hohmann: “Individual projects of individual countries should be conformed to the plan of actions. That is why we don’t have a budget at the moment, as first of all we should learn which projects are urgent”.
Meanwhile, on July 2nd Mass Media spread the information on suspension of the “Eastern partnership” program. The rumors occurred after the statement of Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt that the program is out of priority within Swedish policy during the presidency in the EU.
According to Christiane Hohmann all the questions arose due incorrect interpretation of the comments of Swedish Prime Minister.
Christiane Hohmann: "He presented the priorities of Swedish presidency. There was a question “Do these priorities include “Eastern Partnership?”, and the Prime Minister answered: considering that our priority is to control financial crisis and the struggle against global warming “Eastern Partnership” will proceed but it won’t be of the highest priority of Swedish presidency”.
Mrs. Hohmann noted that the EU presidency doesn’t give Sweden any right to change European programs independently.
"This is not a decision of individual Parties. This is a suggestion of the Commission and now it is a policy of the European Union", - said spokeswoman.
