Over the past three years, Turkey and Israel have learned to live in a state of bilateral "no war, no peace"
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan made Israel jittery, and along with a grudge against the Turkish government. Speaking at the 5th Forum UN "Alliance of Civilizations" in Vienna, Erdogan put in line the term "fascism", "Zionism" and "Islamophobia." According to the Turkish prime minister, the latter phenomenon should be equated to that of an international crime against humanity. Although the mention of Zionism with Nazism near Erdogan pointed to anti-Semitism, few people paid attention to it.
Erdogan has equated Zionism with Nazism, and that was enough to raise the wave of discontent. Statements by the Turkish Prime Minister immediately condemned the United States for which another piece of anti-Israel rhetoric from Ankara was totally inappropriate.
The Current Situation in Washington have real reason to hope for the restoration of Turkish-Israeli relations to the level of spring 2010. As you know, May 31, 2010 against two former close military-political partners in the Middle East have undergone significant erosion. After the incident on board the ferry «Mavi Marmara», Ankara and Tel Aviv have been unable to reach mutually acceptable solutions which would allow them to look into the future of bilateral relations with at least the minimum optimism.
All past nearly three years, Washington put the effort to restore Turkish-Israeli relations to bezkonfrontatsionnogo level. Under the auspices of the United States, a series of confidential meetings of Turkish and Israeli representatives, set the stage for resuscitation broken after May 31, 2010 military ties. A few days before the offensive Israel to Erdogan, the United States achieved the realization of the contract around SIGINT systems for aircraft AWACS (Airborne Warning and Control System), designed in Turkey. Person involved in the transaction was the Israeli side, which served as a factor for Turkey undisguised irritation. However, on February 18, Israeli media reported on the completion of Tel Aviv transfer SIGINT systems cost about $ 200 million for U.S. AWACS aircraft based on the "Boeing-737-700" to order the Turkish Air Force.
But a lot of what has been accomplished Americans, were in vain. Particularly irritated Washington, who did not hide them in the first days of this month, was associated with scoring Erdogan's anti-Israeli statements on the eve of the first Middle East tour, the new Secretary of State, John Kerry. The foreign minister of the United States was going to visit the region with a positive diplomatic baggage. But he had to do in Ankara, the Turkish statements and straightens out again to accept the fact that relations between the latter and the Israelis are far from a real recovery.
Paradoxically, it is a fact. The only loser in the situation after Erdogan's anti-Israeli statements can be considered as the United States. They were the main beneficiary of the external close military-political relations between Israel and Turkey in the past. Current dynamics of the Middle East process required a sharp strengthening of their relationship, not breeding in different corners, "the Middle East ring." In the context of the United States the most exciting regional developments in Iran, Syria, Iraq, running a bunch of Turkey - Israel would become an important pillar of the Americans in the Middle East.
The Turks and Israelis after 27 February gained new foreign pros, or at least not faced significant external losses.
Turkey continues to see himself as the leader of the Islamic world, the main advocate of Muslim-majority on the global and regional markets interstate communication. Friendship with Saudi Arabia, Qatar and other Arab monarchies of the Persian Gulf (and not only them), does not fit into the framework of a possible warming of Turkish-Israeli relations. Turkey increased its political and economic capital of the Middle East sector to a large extent on the course of a hard critic of the regional policy of Israel.
Ankara feels great interest in Washington's strategic nature of bilateral cooperation with it. Add to this significant alertness current leadership of the U.S. and Israel, to each other, then the Turks have an additional motivation to act in the direction of the Israeli assertive manner.
Erdogan to Israel were way in the context of the forthcoming visit of the U.S. President to the Jewish state. Previously announced by the approximate duration of the visit, which will be Obama's first foreign trip as president, elected for a second term - in question. Obama is expected in Israel in the first days of the last ten days of this month, but those plans were suspended in the air.
The new Israeli government has not been formed. But the Israelis, as might be expected, not particularly interested in resolving the issue with the new Cabinet. The fact that there is objective evidence of a fundamental attitude Obama during his visit to Israel to local officials on the specifics of solutions for a number of critical issues - Iran, Syria, and, of course, Palestine.
Obama would seek from the new Israeli government on the question of Palestine - is obviously known. Consent to the implementation of the concept of "two states for two peoples." More specifically, the Israeli press has already outlined the framework for Obama's priority issue during his upcoming visit - plan for the withdrawal of Israeli settlements from the West Bank of the Jordan River, where in the next few years, Americans want a Palestinian state.
Against such a background of expectations from the White House of Obama's visit, the Israelis would be important to gain time, using the argument of the ongoing internal political consultations over forming a new government, and once again drew attention to the fact of its ally progressive hostility surrounding Israel.
Here, for a special credibility in the direction of Washington, Tel Aviv and to recall the recent statements by Erdogan. If we are NATO member, a strategic partner of the U.S. allow the harshest criticism against Israel, what can you expect from other countries, which constitute an immediate and more distant surroundings of Israel?
Over the past three years, Turkey and Israel have learned to live in a state of bilateral "no war, no peace." There are many factors, which indicates the system, and thus the long-term cooling of military-political relations between the two former partners. Sets the tone of opposing Turkey and personally its charismatic leader Erdogan. Israel also had to adapt to the new regional entities and seek in every negative, their potential benefits.
