By Sharunas Cheniauskas

The President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė decided not to go to the meeting, arranged by the President of Poland Bronislaw Komarowski, with the heads of Baltic states in Warsaw. It is reported that during this meeting the President of Poland wants to discuss with the Heads of neighbor-states the issues of the on-coming NATO Summit in Chicago. But the plans of Grybauskaitė don’t anticipate the visit to Warsaw.

The Presidential Secretariat confirmed DELFI this information.

According to unofficial information of DELFI, the decision of the President can be related to aggravated relations in connection with the issues of national minorities in Lithuania.

According to DELFI, Lithuanian diplomats in the beginning of this year received unpleasant statements from diplomatic corpse of Poland. As if Polish representatives hinted, that Warsaw may review its line on further participation and support of air police of NATO in Baltic states, if Lithuania doesn’t undertake urgent measures to solve the issues of Polish national minority.

Unofficial resources of DELFI report that such statement was sent to Lithuania in January. The same messages were received by Lithuanian Embassy in Warsaw and Representative Office of Lithuania to NATO.

Malyukyavichus: It Is Time for Warsaw to Strive for Relaxation of Relations

Political analysts Nerijus Malyukyavichus  said DELFI, that he  doesn’t want to deep into the discussion on the subject of Polish line on the mission of air police.

"Current situation is pretty unfavorable for such rumors and speculations. Speculations on the issue of Polish national minority have died down. It seems that now silent diplomacy should intensify, in order to improve relations. (…) Speculations on the issue of security, I think, are definitely undesirable, - said Malyukyavichus.

According to him, lately the attitude of Poland towards Russia has changed, which forced Baltic States seeking support in Scandinavian states. Obviously, that Poland wants to preserve leadership in the region and its influence on Baltic States. However, as the analyst considers, Warsaw as well as Vilnius should try to achieve normalization of worsened relations.
