Kazakh, Russian Presidents met in Astana

Upon completion of the session of the EurAsEC Interstate Council in Akorda Palace Head of the State Nursultan Nazarbayev has had a meeting with President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev.

Prospects of further development of the Kazakh-Russian trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian cooperation were on agenda of the meeting.

"We enjoy very constructive relations nowadays. Today we will sign several agreements, namely, the agreement on construction of a new unit at Ekibastuz GRES-2 costing USD 700 mln. These are also agreements on building a joint venture on development of deposits by Russian technologies and construction of a nuclear power station in Kazakhstan", N. Nazarbayev said.

In turn, D. Medvedev said that Russia and Kazakhstan had approached a high-level of integration. "The Customs Union between our countries has already started functioning. Soon we will establish the single economic space which will lead us to a common market. Finally, I think we will establish a joint currency market", the Russian Leader noted.
 
 
Medvedev congratulates Kazakh president and capital upon birthday
 
President Dmitry Medvedev has congratulated Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev on his birthday and the "birthday" of the Kazakhstani capital – Astana. "The Kazakh leader is highly appreciated and loved in Russia," Medvedev acknowledged.

At a meeting with the Kazakh president Medvedev told him that the meeting had a symbolic character because it was being held during days when Kazakhstan was celebrating an anniversary since the transfer of the Kazakh capital to Astana. The Kazakh president's birthday is due on the following day.

“I wish you good health. We highly appreciate and love you as the closest partner," Medvedev told the Kazakh president.

The Russian president declared that Astana greatly impressed him. There was not much to look at in Astana when he first visited the city in his student years, Medvedev noted. "Now, Astana has turned into a beautiful city," he stressed.
