President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė participated in the festive events dedicated to Poland's Independence Day in Warsaw, on the invitation of President Bronislaw Komorowski of Poland.

"For the second consecutive year, I have the honor to extend on behalf of the people of Lithuania our warmest congratulations to all of you on Independence Day. This year carries great meaning to our countries. The Solidarity movement, born exactly thirty years ago in Poland, cracked the foundations of the Soviet empire and contributed in a significant way to the reestablishment of Lithuanian independence in 1990," the President of Lithuania underlined in her congratulatory address made in the Polish language.

According to the President, Lithuania felt Poland's friendly shoulder along all its path of integration into NATO, and cooperation between the two countries became even stronger after Lithuania and Poland joined the European Union.

"It took us only several years to see how much we can achieve when we act in unity and in support of each other. I have no doubt that we will continue on the path of cooperation because we are stronger together. May our shared historical experience give us a common vision and further inspiration!" President Dalia Grybauskaitė said.

After the ceremony at the Grave of Unknown Soldier, President Dalia Grybauskaitė had a working meeting with Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski. The two Presidents discussed opportunities for strengthening Lithuanian-Polish bilateral relations and most important aspects of cooperation within NATO, the European Union and OSCE.

The Presidents also discussed preparedness of both countries for NATO Summit to be held this month in Lisbon, which should approve NATO's new strategic concept.
