Secretary General: GUAM National Coordinators Will Meet In Tbilisi

The National Coordinators' Council (NCC) may be held in Tbilisi March 12-14, Organization for Democracy and Economic Development - GUAM Secretary General Valeri Chechelashvili said.

"GUAM NCC may be held in Tbilisi, which will host a conference March 12-14 on transferring the Visegrad Group's experience to the western Balkans and GUAM member countries," he told Trend News in Baku.

All GUAM member-countries, including their national coordinators, have been invited to the event, he added. If all the national coordinators will be able to come to Tbilisi, then the NCC will be held there.

The date of the GUAM foreign ministers' meeting has not yet been named, as Ukraine has yet to form its new government after the 2010 presidential elections.

Regarding projects within the framework of GUAM and the organization's future plans, he said GUAM's secretariat in Kiev recently held a joint seminar on combating crime.

"Soon our national components of the virtual center for combating organized crime will be equipped with cryptographic equipment allowing the sharing of classified information to develop the concept of a single transport GUAM transit corridor, which is coordinated by the Azerbaijani Transport Ministry," he said.

OGUAM projects are under development, he added.

Four post-Soviet republics, Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova, established the GUAM format in 1997 during a summit of EU presidents in Strasbourg. In 1999, Uzbekistan joined, but left after only four years.
